Laphroaig 10yo Official Cask Strength Batch: 001

Laphroaig 10yo Official Cask Strength Batch: 001, 57.8% ABV, Bottled: February 2009
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
I found it delicious at the time of release. Laphroaig 10yo Official Cask Strength Batch: 001, 57.8% ABV, Bottled: February 2009 The aroma is sweet with notes of vanilla, orange marmalade, smoked seafood, honey, a gradual maltiness, strong iodine, and smoky richness. When drinking, it expands powerfully with a rich sweetness of orange marmalade, umami from roasted barley, vanilla, tightening oak, slightly earthy, and a rich flavor with iodine, leaving a long finish. [Good/Very Good] This is the first batch (001) of Laphroaig's 10-year-old Cask Strength series, bottled in February 2009. It has the typical Laphroaig aroma with concentrated citrus jam, strong iodine, and smoky peatiness. It has the robust mouthfeel characteristic of cask strength whisky. Although it's 10 years old, its flavor is far from monotonous, with depth, a rich sweetness, and umami. It has a concentrated finish that is highly satisfying. Personally, I preferred the absence of charcoal or ash-like notes. At the time of release, it was delicious, but after about five years since bottling, some roughness has mellowed, viscosity has increased slightly, and it now carries a subtle earthy nuance. It gives the strong impression that it will continue to improve further.
