Lived up to expectations with a distinctive aroma.
Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 10yo OB ORIGINAL CASK STRENGTH BATCH 007 56.3% bottled in JAN 15
The aroma features ripe oranges, apricot jam, vanilla, katsuobushi dashi (fish stock), concentrated black tea, pronounced iodine notes, strong smokiness. On the palate, it delivers a rich sweetness of apricot jam and orange, with a concentrated depth and robust body. Notes of vanilla, strong iodine, and smoky charcoal are prominent, alongside savory fish stock elements, a rich thick texture, and a long finish. [Good/Very Good]
This is Batch 007 of the latest Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength release. From the first aroma, it distinguishes itself from typical grapefruit-forward fruitiness common in bottlers' expressions, instead showcasing a thick jam-like fruitiness. Notes of concentrated black tea, fish stock, and the characteristic bourbon-style iodine thickness of official releases were strongly present. On the palate, the same jam-like fruitiness and its rich sweetness remained prominent, with Laphroaig's classic bold iodine peat character powerfully asserting itself. While the flavor lived up to expectations without surprises, it was sufficiently satisfying for Laphroaig enthusiasts and represented a well-crafted bottle. As expected, it delivered the substantial drinking experience of an official Laphroaig expression, making its release as a cask strength bottling particularly meaningful.
