This is a very cost-effective release.
Springbank SPRINGBANK 14yo OB BOURBON WOOD 55.8%
The aroma is elegant and gradually expands, with notes of vanilla, coconut, honey, dry malt, white flowers, oil, and peat.
When drinking, it has a spicy sensation, fresh citrus, sweet maltiness with citric acidity, umami-rich malt, and a lingering finish of saltiness and peat.
[Good/Very Good]
Recently released, this is the official Springbank 14 Year Old in bourbon wood.
The positive influence of the bourbon cask is evident through notes of vanilla, coconut, and floral nuances. At the same time, it clearly showcases Springbank's characteristic elements such as umami-rich maltiness, seafood-like umami with saltiness, and peat.
In recent years, many of Springbank's sherry casks (excluding special editions) have contained flavors I personally don't prefer, so I've been enjoying the standard 10 Year Old without those influences. However, this bottle gave me an impression similar to a cask strength expression.
It's also nice that the Springbank whisky feels already matured upon release.
The price is reasonably low for a cask strength bottling, placing it in a position similar to the Morrenji Aster.
I couldn't purchase it myself, possibly due to searching after drinking, but I believe this is an excellent value new release.
