Aberlour ABERLOUR 16yo OB #4738 53.5% FIRST FILL SHERRY CASK
The aroma featured recent sherry, berry jam, grape skin, bitter chocolate, herbs, and a faintly toasted barley with an earthy, good woody character. Upon drinking, it started with a smooth mouthfeel and expanded powerfully, offering a rich jammy sweetness with a tightening tannic bitterness, slightly meaty notes, and a long, deep finish of barley and herbs. [Good/Very Good]
This Aberlour single cask, first-fill sherry cask, was aged for 16 years. The overall character is covered with a relatively recent sherry influence, and the aroma clearly presents elements like jam, grape skin, bitter chocolate, and herbs. The barley character remained present as well.
When tasted, it had similar nuances to the aroma, with a strong sweetness balanced by a good tannic bitterness. There were meaty notes but not overly sulfurous, contributing to the depth of flavor.
Although it's a recent sherry cask, it has good depth and is well-crafted.
