Lagavulin 16 Year Old Official Bottling Circulated in the 1980s to 1990s
Bottle #ラガヴーリン(LAGAVULIN)
A magnificent, rich, and delicious giant among Islay whiskies.
Lagavulin LAGAVULIN 16yo OB 43%
Circulated in the 1980s to 1990s
The aroma has a slightly seductive old-world feel, with smooth apricot jam, a touch of pear-like jam, tree sap, barley's umami, condensed barley and seafood umami, and a powerful peat with iodine notes.
When drunk, it is heavy and full of umami, with viscosity. It has plum and apricot jam, oil, a rich and deep sweetness, seafood umami, strong peat with iodine, and a long, luxurious finish.
【Very Good】
This Lagavulin 16 Year Old Official Bottling was circulated from the late 1980s to around 1990. While there are slight differences, the label is similar to today's versions and represents the standard of that era.
A strong sense of power from the peat, along with viscosity reminiscent of apricot jam and tree sap, as well as rich, deep sweetness and seafood umami—elements that also feel present in current releases but are particularly pronounced here.
Additionally, the subtle old-world charm beginning to emerge was a pleasant surprise.
Lagavulin's standard bottling has always maintained its distinct character, from the sherry-forward 12-year-old to the current 16-year-old. It is a stable and delicious whisky among standards.
However, whether due to aging or production differences, these bottles seem to excel further in terms of depth and richness compared to current releases.
A very satisfying cup, leaving a feeling akin to having tasted an old cask strength.
