Current Release: Longmorn 16 Year Old Official
Bottle #ロングモーン(LONGMORN)
It's been a while since I tasted this specification.
Longmorn LONGMORN 16yo OB 48%
The aroma suggests tangy orange, apricot, a subtle lychee, pronounced cereal notes with a youthful character and green plantiness, vanilla, strong oak. Upon tasting, it delivers rich cereal notes with a youthful character and umami, a faint sweetness with depth, and a rustic cereal finish that lingers in the mouth. [Good/Very Good]
This is the current release of Longmorn 16 Year Old, official bottling.
I remember enjoying several bottles during the previous label era, but when I first tried this specification, I felt the price had increased without a corresponding improvement in flavor, so I haven't tasted it for some time.
While I enjoy this distillery, this was a long-awaited reunion.
I forgot that 48% ABV makes this quite high for a standard bottling, which shows their dedication.
From the aroma, I detect the typical Speyside malted fruitiness, but also a youthful character and pronounced cereal notes.
Upon tasting, the cereal notes and their umami take center stage compared to the aroma, with some fruitiness but slightly subdued.
Due to its higher ABV, it feels quite rich and full-bodied compared to standard bottlings, and given its 16-year age statement (longer than typical standards), it doesn't feel overly immature among current official standard releases.
Longmorn often makes me expect vibrant, tropical fruitiness, but honestly, it doesn't quite meet those expectations.
However, I could appreciate the rustic charm of the cereal flavors and its substantial, less immature malt character. It was quite enjoyable.
As I enjoy this distillery, and considering the potential for fruit-cereal balance to evolve over time, I'm now hesitating whether to buy a bottle and savor it slowly. (Laughing)
