Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
It was good with a simple sherry character. Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 17yo OB 43% 1980s Circulation The aroma is gentle old sherry, black sugar, plum jam or prune, roasted chestnuts or dry nuts, faint mirin, and from the depth, earth and tar. When drinking, it starts with a soft mouthfeel, spreading gently to envelop the entire palate with a simple old sherry character. It has a slightly chewy texture, sweetness from plum jam and black sugar, with a faint tannic tea-like note, umami reminiscent of mirin. There is also a slight earthiness and a light old peat in the aftertaste, which is pleasant. [Good/Very Good] This Glenfarclas 17 Year Old is an official bottling that circulated in the 1980s. This label feels like it's the first time I've seen it. The aroma lacks noble nuances, but a matured sherry character with an old feel wraps around the entire profile. I could also sense the typical concentrated fruits and mirin-like notes that are characteristic of Glenfarclas. There were also some unique roasted chestnut-like nuances and a subtle earthy & peaty depth that I found enjoyable. When drinking, the same old sherry character as in the aroma is present. The sweetness of jams and other rich, thick flavors are well balanced with a pleasant tannic bitterness. The umami is also strongly felt, along with some earthiness and a refined old peat. It was a Glenfarclas that had simplicity yet depth.
