A fruity and delicious Caol Ila. Caol Ila CAOL ILA 18yo OB 43% Current Product The aroma has concentrated grapefruit citrus notes, green apple, dried barley, seaweed dashi, strong peat smoke. Upon drinking, it has a slightly smooth mouthfeel with some viscosity, apricot, and a stronger sense of dashi-like elements, tar, oil, and honey-like sweetness with umami. The peat finish is long and pronounced. 【Good/Very Good】 This is the current bottling of Caol Ila's official 18 year old, likely the latest batch. The aroma is quite fruity with a concentrated citrus note that feels like my favorite Caol Ila. It has the typical Islay seaweed and dashi notes, as well as a strong peat presence. When drinking, the texture is slightly smooth with some viscosity. While there are fruit notes, I strongly felt the peatiness containing tar and oil, along with a rich sweetness and umami. As expected from an official bottling, the balance between fruity notes and Islay peat is well-achieved. Compared to the standard 12 year old, it feels more viscous with a richer umami and body.
