Glenmorangie 1959 30 Year Old Dun Eideann #84/611-1
Bottle #グレンマレイ(GLENMORAY)
This was a refined old Glenmorangie.
Glenmorangie GLENMORAY 1959-1989 30yo Dun Eideann #84/611-1 40%
The aroma is strong, seductive and rich with a good old whisky character. Notes of apricot jam, black tea, slightly damp grain, earthy, wet leather, a touch of dusty antique furniture woodiness. From the depths come peat, butter, and the aroma keeps evolving. The palate starts with a soft mouthfeel expanding into a rich complexity, with apricot jam sweetness and tangy acidity. The woodiness and good tannins mirror the aroma, with a long finish.
【Very Good】
This is from the early days of Dun Eideann, when it was still hand-written. Glenmorangie 1959, matured for 30 years.
The cask number notation '#84/611-1' is a bit unclear, but it might indicate a vatting of two casks.
Though aged from the 1950s distillation, it's already been bottled for about 25 years. The aroma is alluring with a pleasant old whisky character, and the rich fruitiness combined with slightly damp grain, earthy notes, leather-like qualities, antique furniture woodiness and old peat are all elements that make me fall for old bottles.
While the palate lacks a bit of the intensity compared to the aroma, it still has a solid body for its ABV. The balance of concentrated fruit sweetness, acidity and tannins is well done, with a nice woody finish. I had slightly high expectations due to the aroma's appeal, which made me feel a tiny bit unsatisfied. However, if not for that, I would definitely rate it as VG/E.
A wonderful 1950s malt.
