GlenGrant 1961 21 Year Old for ZENITH
Bottle #グレングラント(GLENGRANT)
It had a very pleasant aroma similar to Samaroli's 1963.
GlenGrant GLENGRANT 1961-1984 21yo for ZENITH 45%
The aroma has a nice old character, with grapefruit and its pith, matured white wine grape notes, slightly green melon, faint peach and pear, white flowers, dry barley, old peat, and a sense of intoxication. When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into concentrated grapefruit, white grapes, refined sweetness and citrus acidity, barley umami that lingers on the tongue, and a long finish with nuances reminiscent of orange oil. [Very Good]
This is GlenGrant 1961 bottled for Italian ZENITH, aged for 21 years. The bottle is slightly shorter and thicker than usual, a shape I don't recall seeing before. The cask supplier was unclear.
From the beginning to almost the end of the aroma, I was surprised by how similar it was to Samaroli's 1963, 21-year-old expression, which I personally like. Although I've already written about Samaroli's bottle, this malt retains a pleasant old character, freshness, and concentration, with a diverse range of fruits, floral notes, and good barley characteristics, along with sufficient intoxication.
While drinking, I thought it might have been a similar cask to Samaroli's, given the same Italian destination, aging years, and bottling year but different vintage. However, while writing this text now, I realized something: The distillation date is May 1961 and bottling in April 1984, which would normally be 22 years of aging. I believe this is a mislabeling.
It might not just be a mislabeling of aging years, but given the intoxicating character, I could even accept that it was actually a sister cask from the same 1963 vintage as Samaroli.
