As expected from Rogha, the sherry character was particularly outstanding among recent releases. Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1969-2010 41yo Scotch Malt Sales Rogha 52.7% Refill Sherry Cask The aroma is dominated by strong sherry notes, with berry jam, dried fruits, Shaoxing wine, and robust herbal elements reminiscent of medicinal herbs, clove. On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel with a creamy texture, grape juice-like freshness, berry jam, and rich sweetness. The herbal and woody characteristics are pronounced but balanced with a mellow tannic finish, resulting in a rich and long-lasting aftertaste. [Very Good] This is the pinnacle series from Scotch Malt Sales, released by Rogha under the Barrindarloch notation for Glenfarclas 1969, aged 41 years. Although labeled as a refill sherry cask, the deep color and strong sherry character suggest an extended maturation. It exhibits a diverse range of fruity notes reminiscent of 1960s sherry casks, with dried fruits and jam-like qualities complemented by a juicy fruitiness. Subtle hints of herbs and spices were also present. The whisky delivers a dense, full-bodied malt with a remarkably smooth mouthfeel and creamy viscosity. It balances fruity richness and sweetness with a pronounced but gentle tannic finish. While not a whisky to drink heavily, it provided an extremely satisfying experience. I've tasted this at launch and felt its tannins had mellowed, enhancing its overall refinement. Though released around four years ago, it evokes nostalgia for the era when new sherry cask releases from the 1960s were more commonly available. I almost want to punch my past self for claiming it was slightly over-ripe and tannic. (Laugh) #Glenfarclas (GLENFARCLAS)
