BALVENIE BALVENIE 1972-2006 33yo OB #14813 47.3% One of 162 bottles
Bottle #バルヴェニー(BALVENIE)
After a long time, I drank it again, but it was still the best BALVENIE in history. BALVENIE BALVENIE 1972-2006 33yo OB #14813 47.3% One of 162 bottles The aroma is strong, with apricot jam, orange marmalade, grape skins, tree sap and good woodiness, an earthy, savory barley note, custard, butter and caramelized nuts, leaf mold, rich and extremely intoxicating. When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel and expands powerfully with rich aromas of grape skins, apricot jam, and concentrated sweet flavors like red bean candy. The good woodiness and tannins reminiscent of grape skins, herbs, a viscous texture with chewy mouthfeel, slightly earthy, oily and rich, with an extremely long finish. [Very Good/Excellent] An official BALVENIE 1972, a 33-year-old single cask. From the start, it has a heavy and complex aroma that immediately tells you it's an amazing malt. It has a diverse jam-like quality, grape skins, and a woody character with a resinous quality reminiscent of good Clydesdale. It also has the weighty nuances of butter and caramelized nuts, earthy elements, and a clear savory barley note. There are continuously appealing components that make nosing enjoyable, but at times it becomes so intoxicating that you just want to put your nose into the glass and savor the aroma. When drinking, it surprisingly starts with a smooth mouthfeel before powerfully expanding into rich aromas. As expected from the aroma, it has a complex flavor profile with concentrated sweetness, a good tannic quality reminiscent of grape skins, and a texture that feels like savoring the sweetness of barley. It has a rich thickness that doesn't become overwhelming, balancing drinkability and satisfaction. The impression was that it had both drinking satisfaction and a pleasant mouthfeel. Originally, this bottle was released at a high price, but for that reason, it has remained in the market for a long time and was even sold at a discount. I bought one during that period and had it in my home, having shared a bottle with it. Of course, it was so delicious that I drank it all quickly, but since then, I considered this bottle the best among BALVENIE. This time, I was able to reunite with it after a long time. At that time, I had the luxury of opening it alongside an official 30-year-old bottle for a tasting comparison. Although both bottles shared the same grape-skin-like characteristics, while the 30-year-old had a heavier feel with some rustic qualities, this 1972 has a heavy yet refined character. It truly stood out as an exceptional malt that delivers both drinking satisfaction and a pleasant mouthfeel. As mentioned above, this time as well, it still left the same impression and was extremely appealing. It seems my throne in terms of favorites remains unchallenged.
