one of 273 bottles, Hogshead
The aroma is strong with notes of apricot jam, black tea, tree sap, wax, beeswax. The viscosity is noticeable even from the aroma. When drinking, it has a viscous, syrupy texture that spreads aromatically with the sweetness of apricot jam and rich umami, deep body, oily and long finish.
[Very Good/Excellent]
From The Single Malts of Scotland by Speciality Drinks (Whisky Exchange), Clynelish 1972, 35 year old.
Several bottles from this series were released in 1972, and the last one released to the general public was also from this series.
Personally, I love Clynelish 1972. When drinking it, I always expect something as wonderful as the ones I've previously enjoyed here on this blog, such as Aikorn and Kingsbarny. And indeed, the nuances of apricot jam, tree sap, beeswax wax are clearly present from the aroma itself. The viscosity is immediately noticeable.
When drinking, it has a very strong viscous texture that spreads aromatically. It has a rich sweet flavor with an oily, long finish.
While some later bottlings of 1972 had slightly reduced alcohol content and lighter body, this one retains a sufficient body and was exceptionally delicious.
