With a sense of drinkability and a unique personality, this was an outstanding bottle. Ardbeg ARDBEG 1973 27yo KINGSBURY celtic 47.4% one of 228 bottles, hogshead The aroma is strong, with chlorine, metal, disinfectant, coolness, intense peat, smoke, apricot jam, orange, richness, nuts. The mouthfeel is smooth, with a rich spread, warm apricot jam sweetness, and a moderate tannic depth. A good briny note, with the same strong chlorine, metal, intense peat, and oily long finish as the aroma. [Very Good/Excellent] This is Ardbeg 1973, aged for 27 years, from the Kingsbary Celtic series. It was released to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Campbelltown Loch's Yorakucho. The aroma is strong, starting with a sharp peat and smoke alongside chlorine and metal sensations typical of 1970s Ardbeg, but also with concentrated fruit notes like ripe orange and apricot jam, as well as nuts. A subtle warmth and richness are felt. Upon tasting, it surprisingly spreads smoothly with a rich aroma, bringing the warm jam-like sweetness and a pleasant tannic touch. The 1970s Ardbeg characteristics of metal and chlorine notes, along with strong peat, are clearly present. Additionally, there was a lingering aftertaste that remained in the mouth without being overly sticky, something I often sense in good 1970s Ardbeg. While the cold and sharp nuances typical of 1970s Ardbeg are strongly felt, there is also a warm fruity nuance that coexists. They do not fully blend, lacking a sense of unity, yet there is no discomfort and it was very enjoyable. Overall, this is an outstanding 1970s Ardbeg with great drinkability and depth. Considering the mouthfeel, intensity, and flavor spread, I felt it was approaching its drinking window. Very satisfying.
