Clynelish 1974-1998 23 Year UD Rare Malts 59.1%
Bottle #クライヌリッシュ(CLYNELISH)
As expected, it felt like a Clynelish from the 70s in the Rare Malts collection.
Clynelish CLYNELISH 1974-1998 23yo OB UD RARE MALTS SELECTION 59.1%
The aroma had lemon cream, white wine, pear, vanilla, modest wax, a surprising grainy note, tree sap and honey, and a faint yet alluring bottle-aged character.
When tasted, it was aromatic and expansive, gradually becoming spicy and waxy. Over time, it developed some viscosity and a concentrated citrus sensation, with aging notes but retaining the wheat's umami for a satisfying bite. It had a rich sweetness, good acidity, and a crisp finish, though the aftertaste was slightly oily and long-lasting.
【Good/Very Good】
This is essentially an official bottling from the UD Rare Malts Selection, with Clynelish aged for 23 years (1994 vintage). Including the popular 1972 vintage, Clynelish in Rare Malts tends to have more subdued viscosity, oiliness, and tree sap-like characteristics compared to other bottlers. As a result, it often leans more towards citrusy notes rather than apricot-like ones.
Additionally, like many Rare Malts, it has a strong cask influence but with a plain impression, giving an image of spiciness and crispness.
I believe this is due to the use of a thorough chill filtration process, frequent use of plain casks, and its high alcohol content.
This bottle is no exception. The aroma seamlessly blends the Rare Malts style with Clynelish's house style, delivering an expected and well-integrated flavor profile. This integration likely did not exist at the time of bottling.
