Bottle #トマーティン(TOMATIN)
The natural fruity notes without being overtly bold made a good impression.
Tomatin TOMATIN 1974 Solar Eclipse 43%
80s Bottling
The aroma features apricot tea, faint peach and orange, a plant-like quality, good barley notes, light honey, smooth mouthfeel upon drinking, slight viscosity, the sweetness of apricot jam, the savory barley flavor that lingers on the tongue, and a pleasant slightly plant-like finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a Tomatin 1974 bottling from the 80s, released for the Japanese market under the Solar Eclipse series. I haven't tried any other bottles in this series, but apparently there are others as well. It seems that Tomatin represents the Highlands and Glen Scotia represents Campbeltown.
I wonder if this is a slightly ambiguous choice of representative bottles. (Laughing)
Unlike the more recent Tomatins from the 70s, which are somewhat chemically flavored and have a very forward fruity character, this one is not overly strong but has a natural and clean fruity profile that left a good impression.
There's some peach-like quality common with recent releases, but it is more subdued and natural here.
As a diluted type, it's naturally drinkable without fatigue, and I didn't feel the negative aspects often associated with old bottles. However, the savory barley flavor that lingers on the tongue gives it a classic old bottle nuance.
It doesn't have an outstanding personality, but it's a clean and delicious bottle.
