The peatiness was quite reminiscent of Clynelish.
Brora BRORA 1977-1998 21yo OB Rare Malts Selection 56.9%
The aroma featured apricot jam, concentrated black tea, beeswax wax, a damp earthy scent, a moist barley note, oiliness, richness, faint saltiness, strong peat, and a viscous texture. The palate delivered apricot jam's rich sweetness, tree sap, barley umami, oily and robust peat, with a long finish. [Very Good]
This is the Brora 1977 from UD Rare Malts, aged for 21 years. While early 1970s Broras often had a cool, salty character similar to Ardbeg, this 1977 Brora had a warm, apricot jam, wax, tree sap, and viscous texture reminiscent of Clynelish. Broras from the late 1970s until its closure in 1983 shared some similarities with earlier bottlings but generally leaned toward the peaty Clynelish style—exactly what this bottle represented. As I enjoy Clynelish's character, I also greatly appreciate this Brora.
