Calila CAOL ILA 1977-1993 SAMAROLI 46%, one of 420 bottles
Bottle #カリラ(CAOL ILA)
Well-rounded and complex Calila with a solid body. Calila CAOL ILA 1977-1993 SAMAROLI 46% one of 420 bottles The aroma has a pleasant old-fashioned character, lemon tea, grapefruit peel, young leaves and well water, chlorine and a touch of metallic notes, vanilla, sea breeze, dashi stock, matured barley, nuts, sharp peat, cheese, strong smoke, tar and earthiness. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into rich aromas, featuring a concentrated, powdery texture with syrup sweetness and citrus acidity, umami from dashi and cheese, nuts, chlorine, solid smoke, and leaves a cool, pleasant aftertaste. 【Very Good】 This is a Samaroli bottling of Calila 1977, released in 1993 at 46% ABV. The aroma centers on citrus fruits with good plant and barley nuances, stronger chlorine and metallic notes than current releases, along with the characteristic Islay malt seaside and seafood elements, as well as a sharp peat. It feels complex with a rich expansion beyond the alcohol strength, featuring concentrated texture with chewy satisfaction often associated with delicious Calila, deep umami, sufficient peat, and a good balance of sweetness and acidity. It's consistently delicious Calila, well-rounded overall, staying true to its character while being complex, and impressively maintaining body despite the dilution. This bottle was received as part of the 16th-anniversary opening at Campbelltown Loch's Yurakucho. This year marked the first Samaroli collective opening since the 10th-anniversary commemoration, but as usual, it sold out quickly.
