Royal Brackla ROYAL BRACKLA 1979-1998 MALT MASTERS SELECTION 51.3%
The aroma is sharp and powerful, with a rustic, savory barley character, straw, orange, and vanilla. When drinking, it is stimulating but has a penetrating texture, strong rustic barley umami, slightly chewy, with body but restrained sweetness and good finish. [Very Good]
From an unfamiliar series called Malt Masters Selection, Royal Brackla 1979. Released in 1998, it was aged for approximately 19 years.
With a plain cask character without seasoning, it was an impressive malt with the rustic barley notes and umami typical of Highland malts.
It has a strong body but the sweetness is tightened with good finish, and while it's stimulating, it also has a refined texture that penetrates the tongue, making for a pleasant drinking experience without any off-putting qualities.
I think it's definitely more refined and has a better drinking experience than when it was first bottled.
Although not complex, it's a malt I love for its aroma at the right drinking moment.
