Glenugie GLENUGIE 1980-1993 SAMAROLI #3656 46%
The aroma features old sherry, berry jam and prune, bitter chocolate, sweet herbal liqueur herbs, earthy scent of damp decaying leaves, leather, almond, faint old peat, rich and complex.
When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel expanding powerfully with rich aromas of berry jam and dried fruits, a creamy thick sweetness, pleasant astringency, with elements like decaying leaves, leather, herbs and old peat creating complex layers, finishing with a long, intoxicating aftertaste.
[Very Good, Interesting]
Samaroli bottled this Glenugie 1980 in 1993, approximately 13 years of aging.
Although the color is deep, the aroma is extremely rich.
The overall character is dominated by an old-style intense sherry note, with concentrated fruitiness like prune, bitter chocolate, herbal notes reminiscent of medicinal herbs, and an earthy scent of decaying leaves, leather, etc., each distinctive element clearly asserting itself in the aroma.
Even when drinking, it maintains a depth and richness that feels unlike diluted whisky, with the concentrated jam-like and dried fruit characteristics matching the aroma's impression, along with a smooth sweetness. The astringency is well-balanced so the sweetness doesn't become flat or sticky, continuing with complex and long-lasting aftertaste including old peat.
A deeply flavorful and highly interesting malt.
