Glenburgie GLENBURGIE 1980-2017 36yo HUNTER LAING OLD&RARE 47.4% (One of 257 bottles, Refill Hogshead)
The aroma is light and elegant with notes of apple, faint pear, pleasant lingering malt, subtle ginger, gentle vanilla, and natural aging character. On the palate, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a slightly chewy texture, featuring the sweetness of baked apples, savory malt, and a vibrant combination of fruits with depth. [Very Good]
This is the new release from Hunter Laing's flagship series, Old & Rare, featuring Glenburgie 1980 aged for 36 years. While it has considerable aging, this bottle does not exhibit an overt aging character or a weak body typically associated with such long maturation. Instead, it offers enjoyable natural aging characteristics and a diverse range of aromas. Particularly notable was the elegant and varied fruitiness centered around apple notes, along with a savory, flavorful malt that surprisingly remains robust for its aging duration. As someone born in 1980, I'm always on the lookout for good malts from that year, so it's a pleasant surprise to find such a delicious new release.
