Bottle #グレンアギー(GLENUGIE)
A delicious 80s distillate malt with gentle sherry notes. Glenugie GLENUGIE 1981-2004 22yo CHIEFTAIN'S #5134 52.5% one of 654 bottles, Refill Sherry Butt The aroma is strong with gentle sherry notes, sweet apricot jam, dried orange with peel, and a hint of barley in the background. The texture is smooth with a slightly chewy mouthfeel, concentrated, rich sweetness of apricot jam, subtle barley umami, slightly oily and rich with oak notes. The finish is long. 【Good/Very Good】 This Glenugie 1981 from Ian Macleod's Chieftain's bottling is a 22-year-old malt wrapped in strong, gentle sherry notes with lingering barley character and umami. The smooth, slightly oily texture and jam-like rich sweetness left a favorable impression. While not deeply sherried, it's a relaxed Aghie with gentle sweetness. 80s sherry casks used to have a bad reputation for sulfur and 'minefield' characteristics, but nowadays I feel fewer bottlings from this era carry those elements. I think the sulfuric notes have largely faded with time since bottling. That said, bottles like this one are likely either originally low in sulfur or had only faint sulfuric notes. Conversely, those with sulfur removed often have a unique depth and richness. #Glenugie (GLENUGIE)
