Brora BRORA 1982-1997 14yo CADENHEAD Authentic Collection 60.6%
The aroma features a plain cask character, with rustic barley notes that convey freshness and depth. Slight hints of lemon, earthiness, and smoky peat reminiscent of smoked straw dominate.
On the palate, it delivers a strong attack with powerful, spicy heat and a chewy, concentrated texture. The young barley sweetness is pronounced, accompanied by subtle lemon notes and dryness. The smoky peat character lingers on the finish, which is long and barley-forward.
[Very Good]
This Brora 1982, aged for 14 years, comes from Cadenhead's Authentic Collection. True to the Green bottle style of Cadenhead, it is a high-proof, short-matured whisky with a light color. As expected, the aroma lacks significant oak influence, presenting a plain cask profile. Despite being bottled nearly 20 years ago, it retains fresh barley notes and their savory depth, paired with a faint lemon tang and a bold, unadorned peat character.
Particularly impressive were the barley notes, which felt concentrated and chewy. As a high-proof plain cask whisky—a specification I believe is common in Green Cadenhead bottles—this bottle may not require further aging, as its peak seems already achieved. It could remain dormant in the bottle for another 10–20 years without surpassing its current quality.
