Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1983-1999 16yo Mackillop's Choice #1847 52.1%
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
One of the bottles that particularly stood out for its Laphroaig-like fruity characteristics in the early 1980s. Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1983-1999 16yo Mackillop's Choice #1847 52.1% The aroma is lavish, with concentrated grapefruit and its rind, white flowers, a hint of powdered cheese, matcha, a moist yet strong peat. Upon drinking, there's a concentrated citrusy powdery sensation, with a moist yet strong peat that lingers on the palate. It has a bold umami flavor that seeps into the tongue, with both fruit and peat asserting themselves harmoniously and leaving a pleasant, long-lasting finish. 【Very Good】 This Mackillop's Choice Laphroaig 1983, aged for 16 years at cask strength. From the very beginning of the aroma, it explodes with the concentrated fruity character one would expect from pre-early 1980s Laphroaig, with the peat following closely behind, presenting a moist impression and strong presence. Tasting it confirms these expectations, offering a textured mouthfeel with a powdery concentration and a piercingly strong umami flavor. The peat is certainly felt, and the pleasant aftertaste of these elements blending together lingers for a long time. 1983 is a vintage where, in my opinion, Laphroaig's concentrated fruity character varies between strong and weak expressions. However, this one is entirely on the stronger side, and I was very satisfied. Incidentally, I remember thinking this bottle was in my home stock. After drinking it and being pleasantly surprised, I went home to check, but it wasn't there... disappointed. (laughs) #Laphroaig (LAPHROAIG)
