Clynelish 1984 22 Year Old SMWS Concours d'Elegance

Clynelish CLYNELISH 1984 22yo SMWS for Tokyo Concours d'Elegance 56.6%
Bottle #クライヌリッシュ(CLYNELISH)
This was a Clynelish from 1984 with very distinct characteristics that I quite like. Clynelish CLYNELISH 1984 22yo SMWS for Tokyo Concours d'Elegance 56.6% The aroma features honey, wax, tree resin, a gentle grainy note, oil, richness. Upon drinking, it has a smooth mouthfeel that expands powerfully with apricot tea, wax, tree resin, and a viscous, slightly slick texture. It has a rich, honeyed sweetness with an oily character and a long finish. [Good/Very Good] This appears to be a commemorative bottle for the Tokyo Concours d'Elegance, a classic car competition held in Tokyo. The cask was reportedly sourced from SMWS. While the aroma lacks complexity, the elements I perceive are exactly what I would want from Clynelish, and each one is clearly and strongly present. Upon drinking, it has the slick viscosity characteristic of Clynelish, so the attack is not too strong in a good way. However, it has a powerful expansion befitting its alcohol content, and the components such as apricot tea, wax, tree resin, and oil are clearly expressed. It also has a rich sweetness with a long finish, making it an overall favorite Clynelish flavor profile. While not outstanding, it is quite close to Very Good, bordering on Good/Very Good.
