Following Macallan, this was also good in its natural form. Linkwood LINKWOOD 1984 30yo THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY 39.103 56.5% One of 215 bottles, REFILL BOURBON HOGSHEAD The aroma features apple, lime with peel, light peach, vanilla, cinnamon, gentle barley, oak, natural aging notes. Upon drinking, it expands from a smooth mouthfeel despite its high ABV into a rich flavor profile with overripe lime, a slightly concentrated texture, barley umami depth, light honey sweetness, plain cask characteristics, and a long finish. [Good/Very Good] New release from SMWS, number 39 - Linkwood 1984, 30 year old. The aroma has a fairly diverse fruitiness with barley notes remaining in balance, giving a natural aging impression typical of modern 30 year olds. Upon tasting, it expands into a rich flavor profile where citrus notes dominate over fruits. Impressively, for a new release, there was a textured barley umami that seemed to seep in, with an overall plain cask character creating a pleasant taste. Recently, I've been tasting several Society new releases, and surprisingly many were enjoyable without the harshness often found in newly opened bottles, offering natural yet slightly plain deliciousness. Many of them fit my personal preferences, which was very satisfying.
