Indeed, the year 1988 has a special flavor. Laphroaig 1988-2005 16 Year Old Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask for The Whisky Fair #1062 50.1% One of 151 bottles, Refill Butt The aroma has a powdery, condensed grapefruit note, dried savory malt, sea breeze, minerals, iodine, but smoky peat dominates. When drinking, it has grapefruit and pineapple, a condensed sweetness, umami from seafood stock, sweet richness, strong peat with a hint of ash, and a long finish. [Good/Very Good] Douglas Laing bottled this OMC Laphroaig 1988, aged for 16 years, for the Limburg Whisky Fair in Germany. The citrus notes feel powdery and condensed, with a refined savory maltiness, as expected, the peat is strongly felt. Compared to official releases, it feels more smoky than iodine. When drinking, the condensed fruits are strongly felt, with seafood umami, making it a full-bodied fruity Laphroaig. The year 1988 is known for having many delicious exclusive malts, and this bottling for the whisky fair also had a texture reminiscent of the early 1980s, making it delicious.
