Glen Garioch GLENGARIOCH 1989-2015 WEMYSS MALTS 46%, one of 258 bottles, Hogshead
The aroma is fruity, with plum and strawberry jam, black tea, a solid woody character, with ginger and barley in the background, sweet and pleasant.
When drinking, it has a very soft mouthfeel, with gentle sweetness from berry jam and pleasant tannins, rich woody character, good balance, and a warm finish.
[Good/Very Good]
Last year Wemyss bottled Glen Garioch 1989, aged for about 26 years.
It is likely a refilled sherry hogshead, with a gentle sherry character that softly wraps around the whole profile, and has jam-like fruity notes and sweetness.
Although the woody character is quite strong, it was impressive that the tannins weren't too harsh and remained within a pleasant range, possibly due to the water addition.
As expected, it's a Wemyss-style sherry cask malt that skillfully balances the flavors with water addition, offering a warm and positive aroma and an enjoyable drinking experience.
