Pulteney 1990-2008 Original Bottling for the USA #4931 57.8%
The aroma is rich and robust, with strong notes of orange, honey, vanilla, and starch. The barley character is pronounced, accompanied by a strong oily texture. Upon drinking, the viscous mouthfeel leads to a powerful spread of sweet orange and honey flavors, with a rich body, pronounced brininess, barley umami, and a luxurious finish. [Good/Very Good]
This Pulteney 1990 single cask bottling for the U.S. market was aged for approximately 18 years.
The aroma is characteristically Pulteney—rich and oily—with a strong presence of sweet honey. Elements reminiscent of bourbon aging, such as vanilla and citrus notes, are well-developed. While slightly creamy in impression, the barley character remains strong.
Upon drinking, it is still oily and viscous, with a powerful mouthfeel. The rich sweetness of orange and honey leaves a favorable impression, along with a pronounced briny character. The simple yet delicious umami of barley was also appreciated.
This thick-bodied Pulteney clearly conveys the house style, living up to its official status. Previously tasted German-market releases were also delicious, and it would be wonderful if similar quality bottlings were released for the Japanese market.
Looking forward to more releases from the official distributor, Mihyang Product Co.!
