The aroma is vibrant, with grapefruit and a rich, good barley note, vanilla, and a strong peat presence with seaweed and iodine, though not overpowering. Upon drinking, it starts gently but becomes spicy with grapefruit, vanilla, and youthfulness without being harsh. The barley note is balanced with a good sweetness and acidity, the peat character is well-defined, and the finish is smooth without lingering.
【Good/Very Good】
This is a short maturation of Laphroaig 1990, aged for 8 years from Clydesdale.
Grapefruit is well-expressed with minimal charcoal-like characteristics in the peat, showcasing a fruity Laphroaig style from the bottler. However, it lacks significant concentration.
Nevertheless, the lack of immaturity is impressive for an 8-year maturation. The balance as an Islay malt, with fruits, barley, peat, sweetness, and acidity, was well-crafted Laphroaig.
