Bruichladdich BRUICHLADDICH 1991-2016 25yo DUN BHEAGAN #2490,2491 #514 48.1%
One of 514 bottles, Hogsheads
The aroma has vanilla and gentle orange oil, apple, a slightly rough, rustic grainy note, and a plant-like quality reminiscent of well water.
When drinking it starts with a gentle mouthfeel, then gradually becomes spicy. It has vanilla and oak, orange oil, a diluted honey-like sweetness, strong plant notes, a faint peat, and a clay-like texture, finishing clean.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a new release of Bruichladdich 1991, aged for 25 years from Dun Bheagan.
It is a cask strength bottling, similar to what Signature often does with adjacent casks of the same specification.
It has a rather good bourbon cask nuance, with orange oil, vanilla, and a unique plant-like oak character.
It also contains some elements I usually find slightly off-putting in Bruichladdich, such as oiliness and a clay-like texture; however, these were masked by the plant notes and cask character.
The balance between the original spirit flavor and the cask influence was good, and it turned out to be quite delicious.
