Bottle #グレンモーレンジ(GLENMORANGIE)
I think this is one of the exceptional bottles in recent years. Glenmorangie GLENMORANGIE 1992 OB 'Rare Edition' PORT WOOD FINISH 59.7% one of 1757 bottles, half-bottle set with water-added Port Wood Finish, circulated around mid-2000s ・Aroma: Powerful and opulent, with a very strong and expansive array of fruits, fully ripe plums, oranges, apples, apricot jams, fresh juice sensations, slightly banana and wax, nutty amaretto-like notes, concentrated apple tea with cinnamon in apple pie, chocolate, tree sap and oak, faintly charred grains and herbs, surprisingly complex and rich. ・Flavor: Smooth mouthfeel expanding into a very aromatic, strong, viscous yet gradually emerging spiciness, similarly opulent and showy array of fruits as the aroma, juicy with chewiness, apricot tart, apple pie, amaretto, rich yet non-greasy sweetness with a full-bodied texture, fruity sweet-sour balance, oak tannins tightening the flavor, extremely complex and rich, slightly oily with thickness, long pleasant fruity finish. ・Dilution: The structure remains intact. The fruitiness is preserved while becoming smoother. ・Overall Evaluation: Extremely opulent and fresh, with juicy and diverse fruity notes. As mentioned above, the Moirangie has a remarkably diverse array of aromas beyond just fruits. The lack of flatness typically associated with cask finishes, along with a charming balance of sweetness and acidity with crispness and body, makes it very appealing. As a malt released after 2000, I think this is exceptionally outstanding. It's so intoxicating that it's very satisfying. 【Very Good/Excellent】 This is an official Port Wood Finish bottle labeled as 'Rare Edition,' a single cask, cask strength release. Distilled in 1992 and transferred to Port pipes from bourbon barrels in 2003, then matured. I believe this is the original spirit for Port Wood Finish, but I think they specially selected high-quality casks. I've written about this before in a BAR drinking article, but it was circulated around mid-2000s as a half-bottle set with the previously mentioned water-added type. As described in the tasting comments and overall evaluation, this is an exceptional malt with a beautifully diverse aroma from specially selected casks, as well as the body and thickness typical of cask strength. It's almost flawless in its release. All 1757 half-bottles have a handwritten signature by Dr. Ramsden, the Master Distiller, which is no small feat. If I had to be selfish, I'd prefer to drink it in a full bottle. #Glenmorangie (GLENMORANGIE)
