Recent Release: Aberfeldy 1994-2013 Wemyss Malts
Bottle #アバフェルディ(ABERFELDY)
There wasn't much Aberfeldy character, but it was a delicious bottle.
Aberfeldy ABERFELDY 1994-2013 WEMYSS MALTS 46% one of 311 bottles
The aroma has soft barley, slightly green melon, apple, vanilla, white flowers. When drinking, it has a gentle mouthfeel, sweet flavor of apples with lots of honey, grassy notes, and rich barley with savory depth, creating a pleasant taste without any off-putting elements. [Good/Very Good]
This Aberfeldy 1994 was bottled by Wemyss last year and is a relatively recent release. The malt from this bottler has a comment attached that expresses its characteristics in one word, and this bottle is described as 'Melon Cocktail.'
Regarding the content inside, perhaps influenced by that comment, there's a fruity sensation with a grassy undertone that somewhat feels like young melon. However, it's not the dominant or primary characteristic. Rather, I felt the apple-like qualities were strongly present both in aroma and flavor. Particularly, the sweetness reminded me of apples with lots of honey.
Besides fruits, there are also savory barley notes and floral nuances. Perhaps due to the added water, overall it felt more like a fruity and malty bottle with refreshing crispness rather than the deep sweet richness and body one might expect from Aberfeldy. It's a pleasant bottle without any off-putting elements.
