The depth increases as you drink it. GlenDronach GLENDRONACH 1994-2016 22yo OB for THE WHISKY HOOP #320 54.1% one of 736 bottles, Oroloso Sherry Puncheon The aroma has a slightly heavy, gentle sherry character with dried orange, dried fig, plum, honeyed danish pastry, rock candy, milk caramel, strong malt and ginger, cinnamon cookie with nuts, rich. When drinking, it gradually becomes spicy with pepper, has a chewy texture, the sweetness of dried fruits and danish pastry similar to the aroma with honey's richness, savory malt and its umami, rich oak and caramelized nuts, the finish is long and pleasant. [Good/Very Good] This year in June, two official bottles of GlenDronach were introduced to Whisky Hoop members, 1993 and 1994. Compared to the previous 1993, this is a tasting of the lighter-colored 1994. The sherry wasn't very prominent, but it worked gently throughout the whisky. As a result, the aroma was very diverse with various dried fruits, honey, rock candy, milk caramel, and a savory maltiness that blended into nuances of danish pastry or cookies. The ginger-like quality from the malt was also quite characteristic, and this was clearly felt in both aroma and flavor. The sweetness had body, the savory umami from malt gave a sense of depth and satisfaction. Actually, my first impression was that the sherry wasn't very prominent, thinking it's a good cask but not particularly special. The 1993 was clearly more impressive in terms of obvious excellence. Afterwards, I drank both bottles at home together with the 1993, and gradually the peppery spiciness softened, becoming more diverse and savory as I drank it further, with a well-balanced maturity, high-level drink that doesn't get boring. It's like the difference between a partner you'd want to go out with and one you'd want to marry. Initially, the 1993 was clearly finishing faster, but after a month from opening, the 1994 has caught up quite a bit. In the end, it seems like they'll both finish around the same time. Drinking them together truly puts them in a position like old original bottles, and it was a wonderful release that made the meaning of releasing both at once feel clear. By the way, old original & sherry is something like this. #GlenDronach (GLENDRONACH)
