Slightly sulfury but with a sweet and strong sherry flavor. Longmorn LONGMORN 1996-2014 17yo SIGNATORY VINTAGE Un-Chillfiltered Collection for The Whisky Fair #72322 46% One of 748 bottles, 1st Fill Sherry Butt The aroma features strong sherry, dried fruits, bitter chocolate-coated orange, slightly gunpowder-like sulfur, and burnt barley. Upon tasting, the sherry remains strong with sweetness from black sugar and jam, a pronounced tannic finish, rich yet slightly sulfury, with a satisfying sweet-sour aftertaste. [Good/Very Good] This is the Longmorn 1996 from Signatory's Un-Chillfiltered Collection bottled for the Limburg Whisky Fair. As expected from a first-fill sherry butt maturation, both color and flavor are deeply covered in sherry. Notes of chocolate and dried fruits are evident, alongside a sulfuric gunpowder-like quality. While not strongly exhibiting Longmorn's typical fruity characteristics, the dilution seems to have had a positive effect. The tannins are somewhat strong but balanced with a rich, sweet flavor. Slightly sulfury in style, which may be polarizing, but it's a bottle that allows for enjoyment of its rich and intense sherry character.
