It had a stable and delicious flavor.
Highland Park HIGHLAND PARK 1996-2016 20yo DOUGLAS LAING XTRA OLD PARTICULAR #11494 53%
One of 280 bottles, REFILL HOGSHEAD
The aroma had a concentrated feel with orange and plum jam, honey, a bit of cream, good barley and peat from the back.
When drinking it, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into a concentrated sweetness of fruits and honey similar to the aroma, balanced by oak, gentle barley umami, a faint nuttiness, and a rich smoky finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is the new release of Highland Park 1996, aged for 20 years from Douglas Laing's premium range, the Xtra Old Particular.
It has a concentrated feel with quite a diverse fruity character, and the cask influence adds depth. The honey-like sweetness and richness were clearly felt.
Also, a distinct peaty nuance was present, which left a good impression.
This Xtra Old Particular, compared to the current Hunter Laing's premium range, the Old & Rare, lacks a bit of specialness but is not overpriced and has clearly better value for money.
