Westport WESTPORT 1997-2014 16yo WHISK-E THE MALT ran away with THE SPOON 57.3%
Bottle #グレンモーレンジ(GLENMORANGIE)
A bottler's malt that clearly embodies the essence of Glenmorangie. Westport WESTPORT 1997-2014 16yo WHISK-E THE MALT ran away with THE SPOON 57.3% The aroma is fragrant, featuring strong coconut and vanilla notes, with orange cream, green apple, and a pleasant malty character. Upon tasting, there's some initial spice that clears the nose, followed by green apple, orange, vanilla, and a delicate honey sweetness. The oakiness and tannins are pronounced, with a long finish. [Good/Very Good] New release from Whisk-E: Westport 1997, 16-year-old matured. Bottled under the name 'The Malt Ran Away With The Spoon,' this single malt is said to be a bottler's creation that added a spoonful of Glenmorangie to the non-bottler-allowed Glenmorangie casks. While adding a spoonful to one barrel is almost meaningless, and it's questionable whether any was actually added (laughs). From the start of the aroma, the fragrant and diverse notes of vanilla, coconut, orange, and green apple typical of Glenmorangie's bourbon casks spread. Upon tasting, there is some spice but the components derived from the bourbon cask are very rich, with a strong woody tannin that adds depth. The bottle fully embodied the recent elegant nuances of Glenmorangie's bourbon casks. It is reasonably priced, and given that this bottle is close to the official style but available at this price from a bottler, I thought it was worth buying.
