Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1998-2013 14yo SIGNATORY VINTAGE for La Maison du Whisky #5556 55.7%, one of 296 bottles, HOGSHEAD
The aroma features grapefruit, vanilla cream, good barley notes, and a strong iodine peat. Upon drinking, it has concentrated citrus flavors with a powdery texture, providing a chewy mouthfeel and rich sweetness with tropical pineapple notes, finishing with a peaty, long-lasting aftertaste. [Good/Very Good]
This Laphroaig 1998, aged for 14 years, was bottled by Signatory for La Maison du Whisky in France. It is from the same vintage cask as the one released for a recent exchange, and we tasted them side by side. The aroma clearly exhibits citrus nuances like grapefruit often found in refill cask Laphroaig, with assertive peat notes of barley and iodine. Upon tasting, it has a concentrated citrus sensation with a powdery texture, offering a chewy mouthfeel, along with some tropical pineapple-like characteristics. Compared to the exchange-oriented version with well-balanced sherry influence, this Maison du Whisky bottling is slightly less rich and deep but more authentically fruity Laphroaig, which aligned with my personal preference.
