Laphroaig 1998-2013 15yo Signatory Vintage for The Whisky Exchange #700393 60.8%
one of 551 bottles, Refill Sherry Butt
The aroma is rich with sherry notes, plum jam, subtle grape tones, strong nuts, slightly meaty, charred barley, and a strong peatiness with iodine. On the palate, it has a smooth attack with jammy sweetness and a good tannic finish. It also carries some smoky peatiness, an oily texture, and a long-lasting aftertaste.
[Good/Very Good]
This Laphroaig 1998, aged for 15 years, was bottled by Signatory for The Whisky Exchange and recently entered Japan. From the aroma, a rich sherry character is evident with pronounced notes of jam and grape, as well as meaty undertones. The strong barley and peatiness are also clearly present.
Upon tasting, despite its high alcohol content, the attack is not overly strong. It has a jammy, rich sweetness with good tannic depth that enhances the flavor profile. The peat and fruit notes linger long on the finish.
While this bottle leaned more towards sherry-derived fruity characteristics rather than the typical Laphroaig fruitiness, it was rich and deep in flavor, making it a delicious whisky.
