A classic official Lagavulin with a touch of youthfulness. Lagavulin LAGAVULIN 1998-2012 Original Bottle Islay Festival 2012 #1716 55.1% Refill Sherry Cask The aroma features apricot jam, a powerful and rich barley note with some youthfulness, fish stock dashi, heavy earthy tones, strong peat with iodine, and a sophisticated oak. On the palate, it has a viscous, smooth texture with a strong sweet flavor of apricot jam, the umami of rich barley and fish stock dashi, and a peaty finish that lingers long. 【Good/Very Good】 Bottled for the 2012 Islay Festival, this Lagavulin has a vintage of 1998. The classic official Lagavulin character is clearly present, with apricot jam, rich barley notes, and a heavy peatiness evident in both aroma and flavor. The sweet, full-bodied flavor is complemented by the rich umami of barley and fish stock dashi. There's a clear suggestion that this could develop into an even more significant malt in the future. While official Lagavulin single casks often use refill sherry casks with minimal cask influence, this one fits that impression. However, there's very little greenness or immaturity, and it already has a refined flavor that seems to have settled further after three years in bottle. Among Islay Festival commemorative bottles, Lagavulin is often a single cask release and particularly hard to find. The fact that it can still be enjoyed years later is a wonderful experience.
