This is an excellent sherry cask. Springbank SPRINGBANK 1998-2016 18yo VINTAGE MALT WHISKY COOPER'S CHOICE #116 46% one of 300 bottles, Refill Sherry Cask The aroma features strong sherry notes with berry jam, prunes, and spices like nutmeg and clove, with roasted barley in the background. On the palate, it begins smoothly with juicy grape flavors, sweet-sour berries and plums, premium chocolate, and a long-lasting fruity acidity. [Good/Very Good] Recently released by Vintage Malt's Cooper's Choice, this is a Springbank 1998 vintage aged for 18 years. Although labeled as a refill sherry cask, the sherry character is very pronounced from the start. The sherry offers not only concentrated fruitiness but also a sweet-tart juice-like quality, giving it an elegant feel. Perhaps due to the strong cooperage impression, the typical Springbank character isn't as prominent upfront, and with dilution, it feels slightly more delicate. However, this is an outstanding sherry cask and very enjoyable. Despite its high price of around 30,000 yen, such a luxurious and intoxicating sherry cask is rare. It's likely that the bottler confidently released this due to its exceptional qualities.
