The bourbon barrel characteristics such as honey, lemon, vanilla, and cream are clearly present. The peat has a strong seafood stock-like quality with iodine, typical of Laphroaig. In particular, the strong honey lemon character and the slight woody sensation and bitterness often found in barrel-aged whiskies were impressive. This is the kind of aroma that would immediately make one think of a barrel-aged Laphroaig 1998.
