Lagavulin LAGAVULIN 1999-2015 OB "THE Distiller's Edition" BATCH NO. lgv.4/504 43% DOUBLE MATURED
The aroma features apricot jam, mixed nuts, strong katsuobushi dashi, rich barley notes, intense smoke, oil, leather, and richness.
On the palate, it offers a smooth mouthfeel with sweet notes of orange marmalade and apricot jam, nuts, seaweed, strong peat, oil sardines, gentle barley and seafood umami, with a long finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is the latest Distillery Edition of Lagavulin 1999, bottled in 2015 as part of the double matured series.
Like the standard 16-year-old, it has a smooth and viscous texture, with pronounced sweetness from concentrated fruity notes and strong peat.
Although it should be a sherry cask double matured, the maturity and complexity in both aroma and flavor were not particularly strong.
Compared to Caol Ila, it had a more stable and conventional flavor profile, but the seafood umami notes of katsuobushi dashi and oil sardines, along with its rich sweetness, left a strong impression.
