Miyagikyo MIYAGIKYO 20yo OB #117421 61%
Bottle #宮城峡(MIYAGIKYO)
The Miyagikyo 20 Year Old from Balvany, was very rich. Miyagikyo MIYAGIKYO 20yo OB #117421 61% The aroma is strong with sherry, berry and apricot jam, nuts, black sugar, herbs, clove, a bit of leather, very rich, strong woodiness. When drinking it is also a heavy sherry, berry jam, dried fruit, thick and rich, with a strong woody character, tannins and astringency. Long finish. [Good/Very Good] This is a 20 year old single cask Miyagikyo from the Miyagikyo Distillery. It is a type where the influence of the very rich sherry cask dominates overall, and I hardly felt the personality of Miyagikyo. However, the good characteristics of sherry without sulfur were felt in a diverse and rich way. The tannins and astringency are somewhat strong, but it is rich with thickness and you can enjoy the sweet long finish. It was also good that there wasn't much of a wooden smell from the raw wood. When it comes to Japanese 20 year olds, there is an image of long aging and high price. But if you reverse calculate it, it would be casks from the mid-90s. It's interesting to think about where Nikka gets such casks without sulfur or raw smell.
