Glen Elgin GLENELGIN 2000-2014 14yo GM 'RESERVE' for La Maison du Whisky #2971 46% One of 348 bottles, Refill Sherry Hogshead
The aroma features fresh citrus, white flowers, a light but strong malty note, bread dough. On the palate, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel and then has a spicy kick, fresh lemon, syrupy sweetness, a slight bitterness from citrus peel and a faint vegetal quality, oak, youthful grains and plant-like characteristics. The finish is not long but clean.
[Good/Very Good]
This new release GM Reserve label for La Maison du Whisky features Glen Elgin 2000, aged 14 years. The nose and flavor showcase fresh citrus notes, youthful grain and plant-like qualities, with a refreshing sweetness. However, there's no sense of underdevelopment that would make it hard to drink. Overall, it has a clean and well-balanced finish.
Since 2000, distillates from Islay have mainly focused on peaty expressions, but it seems that some Speyside malts have reached a stage where they can be enjoyed as is, depending on the cask.
