Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 2000-2016 16yo Douglas Laing Old Particular for the 60th Anniversary of La Maison du Whisky #DL11303 53.9%
One of 315 bottles, Refill Hogshead
The aroma is strong and fruity with orange oil, vanilla, a touch of cream, naphthalene, fresh grain notes, some young leaves, and a strong smoky peat with iodine.
On the palate, it has a less stimulating mouthfeel than the alcohol strength, with slightly condensed citrus and powdery texture, faint peach, vanilla and oak, oil, dry grain notes, pleasant sweetness with citrus acidity, deepening oak, and a fruity peaty finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a cask strength bottling of Laphroaig 2000, aged for 16 years, from Douglas Laing's Old Particular series to commemorate the 60th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky.
Usually a watered-down series, but this release is at cask strength, showcasing the house's strength.
Regarding the aroma and flavor, it was well-crafted enough to be considered Very Good.
It has a strong, floral fruity character typical of Laphroaig from a refill cask, with the expected powdery concentration.
The grain notes carry fresh nuances of young leaves without any rawness, and it retains sufficient Laphroaig-like peatiness.
A well-crafted bottler series of Laphroaig with a familiar flavor profile, but it's impressive enough to make one exclaim 'sugoi' (amazing).
