Lagavulin LAGAVULIN 2000-2016 OB Distillers Edition Batch No. igv.4/505 43%
Bottle #ラガヴーリン(LAGAVULIN)
In a way, it's the last bicentenary bottle. Lagavulin LAGAVULIN 2000-2016 OB Distillers Edition Batch No. igv.4/505 43% The aroma features apricot jam, tree sap, oil, nuts, seafood dashi, with hints of charred barley, strong smoke, and peat. The palate is unexpectedly gentle, mirroring the aroma with apricot jam, tree sap, a mild sweet richness, soft barley umami, dashi, nuts, and oil. The body is medium-weight with a solid peat presence. [Good/Very Good] This is the official Lagavulin 2000, matured for approximately 16 years. It's the latest in the Distillers Edition series, following the old Double Matured range. As bottling occurred in 2016, the label includes a bicentenary logo. As a bicentenary bottling, previous releases included NAS Jazz Fest, 8 Year, 12 Year, 18 Year Islay Fest, and 25 Year. This Distillers Edition would also fall under bicentenary specifications. Regarding the core content, it exhibits a characteristic tree sap-like quality and apricot jam richness typical of Islay malts, with powerful peat notes. The double-matured process adds complexity and a well-balanced profile. While the body feels lighter than usual for Lagavulin (possibly due to dilution), it offers a gentle, diverse flavor that's highly enjoyable. This appears to be a conscious effort to commemorate the 2016 bicentenary year, making it an excellent Lagavulin.
