Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
Laphroaig from the Hunter's Range often has delicious expressions. Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 2000-2017 16yo EDITION SPIRITS 'THE First Editions' #13277 58.1% One of 270 bottles, REFILL BUTT The aroma features pleasant sherry, plum jam, chocolate-covered dry orange, smoked turkey and seafood stock, seaweed, and a robust peat with iodine. On the palate, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into rich, powerful notes of plum jam, pineapple, ripe orange with a subtle peach-like quality, savory seafood stock and malt umami, smoked meat, and peat with iodine that lingers long on the finish with fruitiness. [Good/Very Good] This bottling from Edition Spirits' First Editions, founded by Andrew Stewart (son of Hunter's Range's Stewart), is a 16-year-old Laphroaig matured from 2000 to 2017. A harmonious blend of pleasant sherry cask elements (jams, dried fruits, chocolate) and Laphroaig's signature tropical notes with peat. It already shows good cohesion and is quite delicious. As expected, the content was diverse with rich umami. Recently, I've had many opportunities to taste sherry cask Laphroaig including this First Edition, but what stood out was the strong 'meaty' nuance reminiscent of smoked turkey compared to others. Laphroaig from Douglas Laing and Hunter's Range is consistently delicious across the 90s and 2000s. #Laphroaig (LAPHROAIG)
