It was a well-aged Laphroaig with sherry. Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 2001-2016 15yo NUNTER LAING Old Malt Cask #HL12357 50% One of 357 bottles, Refill Butt The aroma envelops with sherry notes, featuring ripe plums, faint raisins, chocolate, seafood dashi, and a strong peat with some slight meatiness and richness. Upon tasting, it offers a sweet sherry character, plum jam, a slightly powdery concentration, a rich sweetness balanced with astringency, savory umami reminiscent of dashi, strong peat with a charcoal-like nuance, and a long finish. 【Good/Very Good】 This is Laphroaig 2001, 15-year-old matured in a Hunter Laing OMC. Although it's a new release, the label seems to have changed. The overall aroma is wrapped in sherry notes, with fruity sensations of ripe plums and grapes, chocolate, and the characteristic Laphroaig seafood dashi and iodine peat. There was a slightly charcoal-like nuance typical of recent Laphroaig, but I could also sense the concentrated powdery texture that I associate with delicious Laphroaig, and the balance of sweetness and astringency was well done, making it a delicious sherry cask Laphroaig. While new releases of sherry casks from Islay were once considered very rare, recently they seem to have increased in number unexpectedly.
