From the aroma, there are elements of bourbon cask characteristics such as concentrated orange and honey, vanilla, along with elements that have been felt in recent Caol Ila bottlings such as saltiness and charcoal-like peat. Tasting it, the general impression was consistent with the aroma, but what stood out was the concentrated texture and slightly powdery feel. Festival bottlings can vary quite a bit from distillery to distillery, but Caol Ila maintains a consistent quality year after year.
